Explore how wildlife recording helps us better understand Ullswater’s wildlife and changing ecology in this talk by Rebecca Slack.
Rebecca Slack has managed the Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre (CBDC) since 2023, leading projects and partnerships that promote wildlife recording and the use of high-quality biodiversity data across Cumbria.
The talk introduces the purpose of wildlife recording — documenting observations of plants, animals and fungi, alongside habitat and site surveys — to help build a clearer understanding of biodiversity and environmental change.
Rebecca will demonstrate some of the tools used to record wildlife, highlight examples from the Ullswater Valley, and explore how individuals can get involved. The evening will also introduce initiatives including Cumbria Wild Watch and Challenge 365, which encourage people across the county to record wildlife observations throughout the year.
Hosted by Tullie House in Carlisle, CBDC provides a vital repository of biodiversity data that helps inform conservation, planning and environmental decision-making across Cumbria.
