SITU Ullswater Bus
A community-led bus service helping people explore Ullswater without relying on a car.
Friends of the Ullswater Way provides funding support for the Ullswater Bus because it helps people move around the valley more easily and sustainably — linking villages, lakeshore places, walking routes, steamer piers and onward transport connections.
The service is operated by Stagecoach and includes the UB1, UB2 and 509 routes, connecting places around the Ullswater Valley and beyond.

Why FOUW funds the bus
FOUW provides funding support because the Ullswater Bus helps people explore the valley without relying on a car.
Good public transport makes Ullswater easier to explore without a car. It opens up linear walks, makes bus-and-boat days out simpler, and helps reduce pressure on narrow roads and busy parking areas. The Ullswater Bus connects directly with the kind of journeys FOUW wants to encourage: walking into the valley, linking routes, and exploring Ullswater by boot, bus, and boat.
How the bus connects Ullswater
The UB1 and UB2 services connect holiday accommodation across the valley and key attractions, including Pooley Bridge, Aira Force, Howtown, Lowther Castle, and Ullswater Steamers’ piers. The 509 provides wider connections between Penrith, Rheged, Dalemain, Pooley Bridge, Aira Force, Glenridding, Patterdale, Hartsop and Keswick.
The service also links with other public transport routes, including the 508 and X4/X5, making it easier to plan car-free journeys into and around Ullswater.
